OUR KINDY

We are committed to a quality kindergarten experience for your children.

Emily Foord Memorial Kindergarten is a not-for-profit, Queensland Government Approved Kindergarten which has just been rated as EXCEEDING across all seven Quality Areas. View our Rating Certificate here!

We offer a kindergarten program catering for children aged 3½ to 4 ½ years across two classrooms, operating on either a five day fortnight cycle from 8.30am to 2.30pm or a four day fortnight cycle from 8.30am to 4.00pm.

Set amongst the trees Emily Foord Memorial Kindergarten has been providing children with memorable childhood experiences for over 50 years.  We are very fortunate to be situated in a cul-de-sac sharing our fence line with parkland. Our families come from the surrounding areas of Gordon Park, Grange, Kedron, Stafford, Stafford Heights, Wilston and Windsor.

The staff at Emily Foord have enjoyed a long association with the centre.  Teaching staff hold university qualifictions and assistants all  have a Certificate III in Early Childhood.  In order to keep up to date with current best practice in early childhood, teachers each year engage in a myriad of professional development experiences.  As a team, they are all very committed to their profession and to giving the best to the children in their care.

Please contact us to make an appointment  to come and visit, and see the truly unique environment we have to offer your child.

CURRICULUM

Queensland Government Kindergarten Approved Program

The centre is a community owned non-for-profit organisation that aims to meet current educational needs of children and their families.

This is achieved by providing a stimulating early years play based learning environment using the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline which is a living and learning framework specifically for children in their pre prep year.

This guideline is based on the Early years Learning Framework (EYLF) which is a national document for children 0-5 years. The curriculum has a vision that “all children experience learning that is engaging and builds success in life”.

The Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline promotes:

  • The importance of the early years in laying the foundation for success in life and learning.
  • That we critically reflect on our children and create an open and reflective framework that engages adults and children.

We believe that learning:

  • Begins at home;
  • Adopts the concept of a competent and capable child;
  • Is supported by critically reflective, engaged and competent educators;
  • Is assessed through reflection, observation, documentation and shared dialogue.

The guideline has 5 key components:

  • Understanding children;
  • Building partnerships;
  • Establishing flexible learning environments;
  • Creating contacts for learning and development;
  • Exploring what children learn.

Play is identified as one concept for learning. Others include real life situations, investigations,routines and transitions and focused learning and teaching.
